Sopot is a part of urban area called Tricity, together with Gdańsk and Gdynia, which are really closely located and connected by many issues. The smallest of them, Sopot is still worth visiting, especially for its two centuries long fame as a seaside resort.

In 7th century there was a settlement, today displayed as an archaeological open-air museum, and the first written informations came from 1283. The flourishing of the city begun in 17th century, when wealty Poles and Germans built here their summer houses and villas. In 1823, the surgeon Jean Georg Haffner bought some lands in Sopot and create the first health care facilities. The park from his times is still preserved in same shape, and he was the creator of the biggest Sopot attraction – the pier. The first one has was only 31 meters long, nowadays Sopot has the longest pier on Baltic. It is 511 meters long, and during history it served as a docking point. Now its mainly recreational, but in 2011 the yachts marina opened on the end of the pier.
